Rega Planet 3 CD-player

Got Planet explode on the audiophile CD picture several years back with their first CD player, the well. Idiosyncratic as consistently, the Planet was a top-loading CD player using a unique, double lid that is hinged.

Rega claim that, as a Rega amplifier is also bought by many Planet buyers, there is no stage doubling on remote controls.

So what is changed? First, there is been a price fall that is welcome, using the Planet 3 being $100 cheaper than its forerunner.

I have been listening a lot recently to Lean on Me: The Very Best of Bill Withers. With this CD the Planet 3 emphasized the bouncy and infectious beats of his various sidemen and Withers. Of the four CD players this month reviewed, the Rega was the greatest on bass guitar.

Where the Planet shines beats and musical interaction involving the musicians is. The Rega revealed time and the subtle interactions of the three jazz musicians, using the pitch of the bass guitar of the four players. The Planet had a sparkling treble, using brushes on drums and the cymbal work being outstanding.

In the midrange compared to the other players, I discovered the 3 a touch skimpy just like the last Planet 2. Be cautious in case the body has already been on the thin side.

Music only seemed to flow than another CD players under evaluation with the Rega. Maybe portion of the cause of this can be the fact that musical dynamics was described by the Planet .

On the Rikki Don't Lose That Number of Steely Dan a slight deficiency of body to the sound was not unnoticeable. But the pacey, musical impetus that made tracks with this CD so pleasing to listen to more than made up this.

Odious comparisons

Using a CD player that is revised there is always the desire to compare the newest version to its forerunner. I waltzed into Auckland's Rega dealer, Coast Hifi, to compare.

The Planet 2 was a CD player that is good, but there is undoubtedly the Planet 3 is not worse.

The 3 has a comfortable quality to it which, in contrast, makes the earlier 2 seem difficult and a little forced. Voices, by way of example, flowed and sounded more natural.

Decision

Rega have done it. The business farther enhanced their entry CD player and has built upon the significant strengths of the Planet 2.
