Q Acoustics 2050i Floor standing speakersThe flagship of the variety, this can be a suitably large bruiser, offering an enormous box for the price, larger even compared to the Missions MX-4 that are mighty. The crossover has been revised, over the previous non-'i' variant; crossover point is 2.6kHz.
The version is the piano gloss lacquer one, costing compared to cooking vinyl wrap. It's really worth the additional, as the finish is superb and the 2050i looks and feels like something costing nearer to GBP1,000. The sole disadvantages would be the about surfaced the fiddly underside location of the loudspeaker terminals, and plinths. Sound quality
With the majority of loudspeakers in this evaluation, there was a sense which I had to make allowances for them, due to their lowly position in life. Kicking off with the Intense drum'n'bass track, and I was reminded of this sort of music; the 2050's scale is' majesty' bass is enough severely large listening rooms. Really, in smaller ones you'll be needing the foam bungs that are thoughtfully supplied - ultimately they sound far better without them. Suffice to state this loudspeaker's lows are nearly subterranean. Bass doesn't merely hover around gently in the background - on music the sound is defined by it, really it's the sound. And the 2050i is recognised this, blasting out the bassline with breathless power and consummate ease.
Its low frequencies and the midband integrated very nicely too; these loudspeakers seemed all as one, leading around a wide open midrange that was bristling with detail. Indeed, the Qs actually began to scavenge with the minute detail in the acoustic that was recorded, placing strands in the combination tightly in space, instead of only consigning them to some generic, Phil Spector-like wall of sound.
Tonally, group proved smooth but hunting. It features a marginally cool and dark quality to it - it is not like you're listening to some loudspeaker made of cotton candy, so don't expect sources that are harsh to flatter.
Like no other layout here, it caught the gritty, metallic sound of a looped hi-hat from a drum machine - without descending into hardness. Indeed, treble integration proved seamless as the bass, as well as the tweeter is a reasonably detailed, incisive unit.
Overall, the Q Acoustics 2050i is an extraordinary budget loudspeaker, in a poor manner plus a good. But it with soso systems in rooms that are smaller, it's less impressive - I had imagine it can overdrive some listening spaces. It is quite as cool and forgiving as several other loudspeakers analyzed here, as well as the previous 2050, so fit carefully. Largely amazing, but be sure you listen first. ![]() |
